Litigation
For more than 30 years, Prem Rawat (Maharaji) has traveled
the world teaching and speaking about a practical way to access
a feeling, a profound experience of inner peace. He refers to
this way or know-how as 'Knowledge'. It has always been a gift:
the techniques of Knowledge are taught free of charge. After
a person has been taught how to practice Knowledge, they are
free to practice to whatever extent they wish, or not to practice
at all, if that is what they choose. Maharaji has often said
that the door is always open.
Since the late 1990s, a small, opposing hate group has used
the internet and news media to spread a combination of deliberately
distorted information and provably false claims concerning Prem
Rawat, his students, and organizations which support his work.
As malicious and libelous as their claims are, he has not pursued
compensation through litigation. A person who promotes inner
peace and maintains an open door policy is hardly in a position
to use litigation as a means to silence his critics. Maharaji
rarely even acknowledges their existence.
Elan Vital (EV) is a registered charity/non-profit organization
which supports Prem Rawat's efforts worldwide. Ivory's Rock Conference
Centre (IRCC) is an award winning conference facility leased
by EV. Neither of these organizations are subject to the restrictions
which apply to Prem Rawat. I believe that they can and should
seek compensation for the malicious libel that has been a feature
of Newspaper articles in Australia, and on the hate group's web
sites.
Editors of Australian tabloids have regarded EV and IRCC as easy
targets. Sensationalist articles sell newspapers.
However, the proprietors of the Courier Mail, the Sydney Morning
Herald, The Age and other Australian newspapers are able to pay
and should pay for the damage they have inflicted on EV/IRCC's reputation.
Similarly, Canadian lawyer, Jim Heller, should also be called to
account for his vicious, libelous attacks on EV.
